STORRS, Conn. - USA Lacrosse Magazine announced their list of 2021 Division I All-Americans on Tuesday and UConn senior Sydney Watson (Prince Fredrick, Md.) earned a spot on this team as a first team selection.
The list is compiled by staff and contributors, with input from college coaches and other sources. USA Lacrosse Magazine identified 60 players overall as All-Americans, including first-, second- and third-team honors as well as honorable mentions.Â
Watson helped guide the Huskies to one of the best seasons in program history, tying the school record of 12 wins while setting a new school mark with seven wins in BIG EAST play. The Huskies earned the No. 2 seed in the BIG EAST Tournament and advanced to the title game before falling to Denver. For the second time in program history, the Huskies heard their names called for berth in the NCAA Tournament, matching-up with Virginia in the first round.
The senior midfielder had one of the best seasons by a Husky turning in a team-best 56 goals, 13 assists and 69 points. She had 126 shots, came up with five game-winning goals, and had 15 free position tallies. She was one of the most dominant players in the country on the draw, winning 136 draw controls on the year. She was named one of 25 nominees for the Tewaaraton Award and earned the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year and All-BIG EAST first team honors, both unanimous.
