WHOC Releases Incoming Class

STORRS, Conn. – Head coach Chris MacKenzie and the UConn women's hockey team have announced the newest additions to the program ahead of the 2021-22 season.
Six student-athletes comprise this year's incoming class, with a pair of graduate transfers and four freshman comprising the class. Mercyhurst transfer Summer-Rae Dobson and Providence transfer Chloe Gonsalves join freshmen Riley Grimley (Norristown, Pa.), Ava Rinker (Elverson, Pa.), Brianna Ware (Pointe-Claire, Quebec), and Megan Warrener (Stony Creek, Ontario).

Before UConn (Providence):
2020-21: Served as the captain of the Friars…Played in all 21 games…Recorded seven points this season on seven assists…Two of her seven assists were on game-winners (Nov. 21 & Nov. 28), while four were scored on the power play (Nov. 21, Nov, 27, Nov. 28, & Dec. 19) …Tallied career high two points on two assists at Northeastern in the Hockey East Championship Game (March 6)… Recorded a team high blocked shots (38) … Finished second on the team in +/- with a +7 rating…Recipient of both the program's Unsung Hero and Academic Award…Athletic Department Sine Qua Non Award Recipient.
2019-20: Played in 34 games for the Friars… Scored her lone goal against Penn State (Oct. 19) to accompany her seven assists on the season for eight points… Finished the season with a career-high 30 shots while blocking 33.
2018-19… Played in 31 games for the Friars… Recorded three points on three assists… Two of her assists were on game-winning goals… Finished the season with 18 shots, 25 blocked shots and a plus-minus of +9
2017-18… Played in 35 games for the Friars… Scored two goals and chipped in six assists for eight points… Scored one power-play goal… Finished the season with a +5 rating… Tallied her first career point on Oct. 6 and her first career goal on Oct. 29… Named a Hockey East Top Performer twice (Oct. 9, Oct. 23)… Recipient of the team's Most Improved Player Award... Named a Hockey East Top Scholar-Athlete and to the All-Academic All-Star Team
High School: Played for the Toronto Leaside Junior Wildcats of the Provincial Women's Hockey League (PWHL) from 2015-17 where she helped lead the Wildcats to their first-ever PWHL quarterfinal appearance … earned the 2016 Junior Female Athlete of the Year Award and posted two goals and nine assists for the Wildcats during the 2016-17 season … competed for Team Ontario Blue at the 2016 Canadian Under-18 National Championships... Graduated from De La Salle College 'Oaklands'
PERSONAL: Daughter of Paul Gonsalves and Eleanor McAteer … Has one brother, John Paul, and one sister Rachel.

2020-21: Played in all 18 games in her senior season...tallied four goals while adding eight assists...had a three point game against Lindenwood on 2/18/21 in which she scored once and added two assists...tallied 66 shots on goal and a +1 +/- rating...finished her Mercyhurst career with 125 games played, 38 goals and 48 assists
2019-20: Was one of 11 players to play in all 36 games…was second on the team with 16 goals and 33 points… scored 16 goals and tallied 17 assists for 33 points… picked up five power play goals, one shorthanded goal, one empty net goal and four game-winning goals… blocked four shots in the defensive zone… ended the season with a +7 plus/minus rating… had ten-multi-point games with three of them being three-point contests… went on a season high four-game point streak with five goals and two assists… had a five-point weekend against Robert Morris
2018-19: Saw action in all 34 games… recorded 8 goals and 15 assists for 23 points, ranking her second in points on the Laker roster… scored four power play goals and two game winning goals… ended the season with a +1 plus/minus rating… blocked four shots… had four multi-points nights, one four-point, one three-point and two two-point contests… had three, three-game points streaks
2017-18: Appeared in all 37 games during her freshman season in which she was 5th on the team in points with 18 (10 goals + 8 assists). She also finished the season with a +/- of +5.
High School: Played four seasons with the Ridley College Tigers...team captain in 2016-17 season...member of Team Ontario Blue U18 national championship team
Personal: Parents are Connie and Al...has one brother: Jordan.
Megan Warrener | Goalie | Stony Creek, Ontario. | Stoney Creek
Before UConn: Played for the BAA Sabres in 2016, helping the team to many tournament and provincial wins. Played at Stoney Creek and went 13-3 with five shutouts and a 1.56 GAA during the 2019-20 season.
Personal: Parents are Lisa and Scott.
Ava Rinker | Defense | Elverson, Pa. | Philadelphia Junior Flyers
Before UConn: Played for the Philadelphia Junior Flyers 16U and 19U programs while attending Owen J. Roberts High. Played in 23 games for the U16 Flyers in 2018-19, totaling eight goals and 19 assists. Played 15 games for high school team during the 2019-20 season.
Brianna Ware | Forward | Pointe-Claire, Quebec. | John Abbott College
Before UConn: Played for John Abbott College Islanders from 2019-21. Attended Canadian National Women's Team U-18 Selection Camp in 2019. Was a part of the Canadian National Women's U-18 Bronze Medalist with Team Quebec. A silver medalist with Team Quebec in 2019 Canada Games. Three-time team captain. Led the LHEQ Midget AAA League in points during the 2018-19 season, earning her LHEQ League MVP honors. St. Thomas High School 2017-18 Coach's Award recipient. 2016-17 St. Thomas High School MVP. Also earned MVP honors in softball during 2017-18.

Before UConn: Played for the Philadelphia Junior Flyers for head coach Chris Baer. Participated at USA Hockey National and Regional Camps. Helped lead team to three MAWA League Championships. Earned three USA Atlantic District Championships. Two-time USA Hockey Nationals Medalists.
Personal: Parents are Denise and Keith. Has one brother, Mason, and one sister, Camryn.
