The Huskies are ready to kick-off their eighth season in Hockey East this fall as the historic conference returns to a 24-game league slate in 2021-22. Hockey East announced a change to their post season format for this season with all 11 men's programs competing in a single-elimination postseason tournament.
UConn has home-and-home series scheduled with defending national champion Massachusetts, UMass Lowell, Merrimack, and Providence. The Huskies will head up to Maine for a two-game set and host Vermont for a two-game series. This season, the Huskies are slated for three-game series with Boston College, Boston University, New Hampshire and Northeastern.
The non-conference schedule will feature match-ups against teams from Atlantic Hockey, the BIG 10 and ECAC as well as the return to the Connecticut Ice Festival in late January.Â
The Huskies open the season on October 2 at home against state rival Sacred Heart and will face another former AHA foe in AIC in a home-and-home series in December. The Huskies will go on the road for a two-game series at Ohio State in October. UConn heads to ECAC members Dartmouth and Harvard and will host Colgate this season.
SNY is set to present the 2nd annual Connecticut Ice Festival on January 29 and 30 once again at the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport. The Huskies will be joined by the Pioneers, Quinnipiac and Yale for the two-day, four-game event. Match-ups and ticket information will be announced at a later date.
The Hockey East postseason will get underway with the opening round on Wednesday, March 9 with Seeds six, seven, and eight will host seeds 11, 10, and nine, respectively. After a reseeding, the top three seeds will host the winners of the Opening Round while the four seed will host the five seed in the Quarterfinals on Saturday, March 12. For the first time since 2019, the Hockey East Men's Championship Semifinals and Final will return to the TD Garden in Boston on March 18-19, 2022.Â
