Huskies Announce 2021-22 Newcomers

STORRS, Conn. - UConn head coach Mike Cavanaugh announced the addition of three transfers and five incoming freshmen student-athletes to the program for the 2021-22 season.
This year's newcomers include three forwards, three defensemen and a pair of goaltenders. The Huskies will welcome three grad transfer students in defenseman Jarrod Gourley from Arizona State, Darion Hanson from Union and Kevin O'Neil from Yale.Â
Jarrod Gourley (Calgary, Alberta)
- Transfer from Arizona State University

- Played in 90 career games in three seasons at Arizona State, scoring seven goals with 13 assists for 20 points.
- During his freshman season he scored three goals with five assists in 33 games while helping lead the Sun Devils to the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament appearances. He came back and matched his point total as a sophomore with two goals and six assists and was a +5 on the season
- Prior to ASU, recorded nine goals and 18 assists in 43 games with the Spruce Grove Saints of the AJHL. He tallied another three goals and five assists in 13 postseason games to help Spruce Grove capture the AJHL Inter Pipeline Cup (second time).
- He wore the 'A' for the Saints and led all team defenseman in goals scored (9)
- He won gold for Team Canada U17 at World Championships in 2015; won gold twice
Darion Hanson (East Bethel, Minn.)

- Appeared in 78 career games with Union, posting a 2.55 goals against average and a .913 save percentage. He had seven career shutouts and had a 30-37-9 record. He didn't compete last season due to Union opting out of the season due to the covid-19 pandemic
- In the 2019-20 season, started 36 of the team's 37 games with a 2.79 goals against average and .910 save percentage. His three shutouts are tied for fourth on the school single-season list and he became the first goalie in the program's Division I history to record 1,000 saves in a season. Hanson ranked second in Division I in saves and third in minutes played.
- A three-time ECAC All-Academic team honoree and winner Harold R. Moore Sophomore Athletic Prize.Â
- Prior to Union, played for the Youngstown Phantoms (USHL) before being traded to the Vernon Vipers (BCHL). He compiled a 14-2-2 record with two shutouts for the Vipers, leading the BCHL in goals-against average (1.84) and save percentage (.945) while receiving the BCHL's Goaltending Award.
Kevin O'Neil (Latham, N.Y.)

- Played in 94 games for the Yale Bulldogs over three seasons. Did not compete in 2020-21 due to Yale opting out of the season due to the covid-19 pandemic.
- Put up 44 total points on 17 goals and 27 assists in his three seasons. In his junior season, he was fourth on the team with 17 points, scoring five goals, while playing in all 32 games.
- As a sophomore he had 15 points and scored twice with an assist to beat the Huskies at the Friendship Four tournament in Belfast, Northern Ireland. As a freshman, was second among the team's newcomers with seven goals and four assists. He was a three-time ECAC Hockey All-Academic team pick.
- Prior to Yale, spent a season playing for Madison and Fargo in the USHL, appearing in a combined 57 games with 14 goals and 21 assists. He attended prep school at Albany Academy where he was named to the 2016 All-New England Prep All Star Team, received the Frederick A. Plunkett Award for being the most improved player on team and the Mary Ann Smith Memorial Award for his dedication to sportsmanship and dedication to hockey.
Chase Bradley (St. Louis, Mo.)

- Played the 2020-21 season with Sioux City of the USHL, appearing in 52 games, scoring 22 goals with 18 assists.
- Had a two-season stint with the Omaha Lancers of the USHL in 2018-19 and 2019-20. In 71 games he scored 10 goals with 13 assists for 23 points.
- Prior to jumping to junior hockey, Bradley played two years at Oakville High School where he had 33 points (21g/12a) in 20 games.Â
Aidan Metcalfe (Palos Verdes, Calif.)

- Played for Shreveport Mudbugs of the NAHL in 2019-20 and 2020-21.
- Appeared in 98 total games for the Mudbugs with a goal and 40 assists. In 10 playoff games in 2020-21, scored a goal with three assists in helping the Mudbugs to the 2021 Robertson Cup Championship in the NAHL.
- Played in prep school at the Berkshire School in 2017-18 and 2018-19 where he played in 55 games, scoring eight goals with eight assists.
Sasha Teleguine (North Attleborough, Mass.)

- Had a 20-game stint with the Chilliwack Chiefs in the BCHL in 2020-21. He scored four goals with 14 assists for 18 points, third on the team in scoring. He helped the team to a 13-7 record in 20 games in the Chilliwack Pod.
- Attended the prep school Thayer Academy for three years from 2017-2020. Played in 83 games totaling 89 points. He scored 36 goals with 53 assists.
Logan Terness (Burnaby, British Columbia)

- Played with the Trail Smoke Eaters of the BCHL in three seasons. In 2020-21, he had a 2.76 goals against average and a .925 save percentage in 12 games. He finished the season 7-5-0 with a pair of shutouts.
- In 2019-20, he was named the BCHL Rookie of the Year as well as playing his way onto the BCHL All-Rookie team as well as being named a league second team All-Star.
- Over his three seasons in the BCHL, he played in 59 total games with a 34-17-4 record, a 2.57 goals against average, a .927 save percentage and three shutouts.
Jake Veilleux (South Windsor, Conn.)

- Played for three seasons with the Victoria Grizzlies of the BCHL where he appeared in 105 total games.
- He had 10 goals and 20 assists during his BCHL career. In 2020-21, had 15 points in 18 games played, scoring five goals with 10 assists, third among the team's defensemen. He helped lead his team to a 14-6 record and a first place finish in the Port Alberni Pod.Â
- Played in 16 games with the Westshore Wolves in the Victoria Island Junior Hockey League (VIJHL) scoring three goals with three assists.
