Noel Mazzone Joins UConn Football Staff as Offensive Analyst

STORRS, Conn. -Â Noel Mazzone, a coaching veteran with over 35 years of experience in the college ranks, has joined the UConn football staff as an offensive analyst, as announced by interim head coach Lou Spanos on Wednesday.Â
Most recently, Mazzone served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Arizona from 2018-20. He and Spanos worked together on the UCLA football coaching staff during the 2012 and 13 seasons.
"I have known Noel for several years and have great respect for him as a person and for his football mind," Spanos said. "Our entire coaching staff will benefit from his presence and I can't wait for him to get to work."
Prior to his stint in Tucson, Mazzone served as offensive coordinator for Texas A&M from 2016-17 and was on head coach Jim Mora's staff at UCLA from 2012-15.Â
"I want to welcome Noel to the UConn football family and I look forward to him providing valuable support to our coaching staff," director of athletics David Benedict said. "We haven't gotten off to the start we had hoped for but we will continue to do everything we can to achieve success on the field this season."
His coaching resume includes time as an assistant coach in the NFL and as an offensive coordinator in the Atlantic Coast Conference (NC State), the Big Ten (Minnesota), the SEC (Ole Miss and Auburn) and the Pac-12 (UCLA, Arizona State, Oregon State). Mazzone spent three years in the NFL as the wide receivers coach for the New York Jets.
Mazzone began his coaching career, in 1980-81, as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, the University of New Mexico. He was an assistant coach at Boulder High School in Boulder, Colorado, in 1981. A native of Raton, N.M., Mazzone graduated from the New Mexico in 1980. He also played quarterback for the Lobos, leading the team in passing in 1976 and 1977.
