STORRS, Conn. - The No. 6 UConn field hockey team lost a back-and-forth battle against No. 15 Rutgers, 2-1, in double overtime at the Sherman Family Sports Complex on Friday night.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Scarlet Knights notched the first goal a couple minutes into the second quarter to take a 1-0 advantage.
Rutgers continued to apply pressure but Cheyenne Sprecher and the UConn defense were able to keep the game within reach. Sprecher notched seven saves on the night.
Trailing 1-0 late into the fourth quarter, captain Kourtney Kennedy provided a perfect long ball that found a streaking Sophia Ugo. The freshman gathered the pass and slipped a shot past the keeper to even the game at 1-1.
