Huskies Continue Building with Strong Showing in Beantown

BOSTON, Mass. - The UConn women's track & field team wrapped up a strong showing at Saturday's Battle in Beantown held at Boston University. Saturday's meet was a non-scoring meet.
The Huskies got a win for the second-straight week from senior captain Mikyla Rodgers (South Huntington, N.Y.) in the weight throw.Â
"This team took a big step today and we really, really became a better team at this meet," stated Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Greg Roy. "A lot of good things happened and we still have a lot of room to grow. Great to see Mikyla Rodgers leading the way with a late throw win today. Just lots of consistency across the board, and loads of improvement. Great to see."
On the track…
- Freshman Brianna Davis (Bay Shore, N.Y.) posted a new PR in the 60-meter dash, finishing fifth in a time of 7.68 seconds.
- Senior Mia Nahom (New Milford, Conn.) took second place in the mile, recording a time of 4:41.58. Junior Randi Burr (Westerly, R.I.) was fifth and had a new PR in the event with a time of 4:51.07.
- In the 400 meters, freshman Raquel Rosa (Waterbury, Conn.) made her collegiate debut and was second with a time of 57.47 seconds.
- In the 800 meters, UConn's Elise O'Leary (Milton, Mass.) was third followed by Chloe Thomas (Dundas, Ontario) in fourth. O'Leary came in at 2:10.15 while Thomas clocked in at 2:11.09.
In the field…
- The Huskies went 1-2 in the weight throw led by senior captain Mikyla Rodgers (South Huntington, N.Y.) who grabbed a win for the second-straight weekend. Rodgers bested the field with a throw of 18.81 meters, coming on her second to last attempt.
- In second place was freshman Natalia Surdej (South Huntington, N.Y.) who had her best throw this season at 18.13 meters.
- In the long jump, junior Emily Lavarnway (Ovid, N.Y.) was second at 5.59 meters. Freshman Alyssa Elliot (Bangor, Maine) was fifth with a jump of 5.49 meters.
- Junior Patricia Mroczkowski (Berlin, Conn.) was third in the field with a height of 1.65 meters. Freshman Taylor Pannell (Middletown, N.Y.) was tied in fourth at 1.65 meters.
- Junior Emma Chee (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) was third in the pole vault, finishing at 4.05 meters
- Freshman Zayin Roe (Richmond, Va.) set a new PR in the triple jump, finishing fourth with a leap of 11.75 meters.
