STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women's track and field will send athletes to a pair of events on Friday, January 28, with a group of distance runners heading to the John Thomas Terrier Classic at Boston University and the remainder of Huskies heading to the UAlbany Great Dane Classic.
Both events are unscored meets. The Great Dane Classic will feature 45 teams and will be held at the Ocean Breeze Track & Field Center in State Island, NY.
The Huskies are coming off a strong showing at last weekend's BU Battle in Beantown where according to Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Greg Roy felt the team has begun turning a corner. "We are excited where we are at with both programs. On the women's side, we really competed well last week and got a lot better. I feel like we are starting to turn that corner with the way we want to build this program. We are really getting somewhere with where we want this program to go and now it's about do we believe in ourselves, do we believe we can get where we want to go. Excited to find out."
At Friday's meet at BU, four Huskies will run in the mile in Mia Nahom (New Milford, Conn.), Chloe Thomas (Dundas, Ontario), Jenna Zydanowicz, Emma Krebs (Roxbury, Conn.). In the 3,000 meters, Randi Burr (Westerly, R.I.) and Celia Chacko (Windsor, Conn.) will compete and Caroline Towle (Bedford, Mass.) will run in the 5,000 meters.
Heading into this weekend, five Huskies are currently at the top of the BIG EAST rankings in their events. Nationally, Nahom is currently 16th in the mile (4:41.58) while Taylor Woods (Marlboro, Md.) is eighth in the long jump (6.26m) and Patricia Mroczkowski (Berlin, Conn.) is 19th in the high jump (1.78m).
