STORRS, Conn. – The University of Connecticut women's hockey team fell to Boston College Friday night 3-1. UConn will finish with a 2-1 record vs. Boston College in the regular season.
The first period began with both teams defenses controlling the pace. In a back and forth start to the game, most of the game was spent in the neutral zone. The Eagles best chance of the first period came when they would hold the puck in the UConn zone for over one minute and fire shots at senior goaltender Samantha Carpentier-Yelle. Carpentier-Yelle and UConn's defense would stand strong during that time blocking four shots and making three saves. UConn would have a chance to get on the board first late in the first period but Boston goaltender Abigail Levy would make the save on the bouncing puck right before it crossed the goal line. Both teams would head to the locker room scoreless.
The second period would begin with Boston College on the power play and threatening. UConn would eventually kill off the penalty, and the game would remain scoreless. Consecutive penalties by the Huskies would give the Eagles the two player advantage however, UConn's defense and Samantha Carpentier-Yelle would deny any hopes of Boston College scoring. Boston College's best chance of the game would come during the two player advantage when a break away attempt was stopped by senior Samantha Carpentier-Yelle. Immediately following the penalty kill, the Huskies would draw a penalty putting them on the power play. UConn would continue firing pucks on the net however they would be unable to convert on the power play. Both teams would be unable to break the tie as they would head to the locker room scoreless.
The third period would begin with both teams jumping on the attack trying to get on the board first. UConn would eventually score midway through the third period on a shot by senior Viki Harkness. Boston College however would immediately answer to tie it up at one. Shortly after, the Eagles would use the momentum from the previous goal and score another to take the 2-1 lead. The Huskies would pull the goalie to try to tie things up but a goal on the empty net by Boston College would put things out of reach.
