STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's soccer team (7-5-1, 3-3 BIG EAST) notched a 3-1 victory against DePaul on a rainy night at Morrone Stadium.

The Huskies out shot the Blue Demons 20-3 on the night and immediately applied pressure offensively. The Huskies totaled six shots in the first 12 minutes of the match with four shots coming off the foot of freshman Chioma Okafor.

Okafor and the Huskies broke through at the 12:25 mark by heading home a service from Cara Jordan. The senior forward delivered a perfect ball from the end line that found Okafor inside the six. It is the second goal of the season for the Blantyre, Malawi native.

Team captain Emma Zaccagnini doubled the UConn lead at 34:45 with a beautiful exchange with Abbey Jones. Zaccagnini passed to Jones, who immediately gave a quick touch back to the streaking midfielder. The Waterford, Conn. native wound up and drilled home her second goal of the season.

UConn maintained a 2-0 lead late in the first half but DePaul was able to make it a one-goal game, 2-1, entering halftime.

The rain really picked up in the second half but the Huskies continued to create quality opportunities. The Huskies responded to the Blue Demons goal with an early strike in the second half.

Chioma Okafor ran down a long ball, pivoted towards the top of the and unleashed a shot that went off the hands of the keeper. Jordan was there to collect the rebound and score her second goal of the year.

The freshman Okafor led the offense with six shots while Sophie McCarthy added four shots including three on goal.

Next up, the Huskies host Butler on Sunday, October 16 at 1 p.m. at Morrone Stadium.
