WSOC Captures BIG EAST Road Victory at Marquette, 2-1

MILWAUKEE - The UConn women's soccer team (6-4-1, 2-2 BIG EAST) captured a 2-1 road victory at Marquette on Sunday afternoon at Valley Fields.
The Huskies offense came out firing at the start, applying pressure and earning a pair of corner kicks in the first three and a half minutes. On the second corner kick the Huskies were able to capitalize.
The Huskies were able to serve the ball into the box and was headed up in the air by a Marquette defender and found a wide open Lucy Cappadona who headed it home for her second goal of the year.Â
UConn continued to push the pace with eight more corner kicks over the next 24 minutes but were unable to double its lead.
The Golden Eagles responded with an equalizer in the 30th minute and the game remained tied headed into halftime.Â
UConn continued to push the tempo out of halftime and caught a break in the early moments. The Huskies played a long ball forward intended for Jada Konte, the Marquette keeper got to the ball first but missed on her clearance attempt.
Konte was there to pick the ball up and score her fourth goal of the season. The goal came just 31Â seconds into the half.
The Huskies were able to hold on to the one-goal victory with six saves in the second half from starting goalkeeper Kaitlyn Mahoney. The Manorville, N.Y. native made her return to the lineup after missing the past four games due to injury.
The victory is the first for the Huskies at Valley Fields in program history (1-4)Â and is the first time the Huskies have won back-to-back games against the Golden Eagles (3-5-1).
Next up, the Huskies will head to Cincinnati to face Xavier on Sunday, October 9 at 1 p.m.
