VILLANOVA, Pa. - The UConn women's soccer team (7-6-2, 3-4-1 BIG EAST) earned a point on the road with a 0-0 draw at Villanova on Thursday afternoon at the HIggins Sports Complex.
The Huskies outplayed the Wildcats for the vast majority of the match with a 23-8 shot edge and also earned seven corner kicks to the Wildcats three.
The Huskies front line created numerous opportunities but Villanova keeper Megan McClay played well in net, making seven saves including a few highlight reel ones.
Cara Jordan led the Huskies with three shots on goal including a second half chance that McClay made a sprawling save on a ball destined for the upper 90 of the goal.
Freshman Chioma Okafor used her speed to torment the Wildcats backline and had her own lofted shot intended for the upper left corner of the goal to be kocked away.
Jada Konte, Sophie McCarthy, Emma Zaccagnini, Maddie Carroll, Abbey Jones and Duda Santin all totaled at least two shots on the afternoon.
Kaitlyn Mahoney earned a shutout in goal with three saves to her name. It is the third shutout she has been a part of this season.
The Huskies are now tied with Marquette for the sixth and final spot in the BIG EAST Championship with two games to play. UConn hosts Providence on Sunday, Oct. 23 at 1 p.m.
