Huskies Overpower Butler, Win 5th Straight

STORRS, Conn. - Â The University of Connecticut women's volleyball team took down Butler in three sets for their fifth straight win. Senior Caylee Parker led the way with 16 kills and four aces.
From the first set, UConn came out firing. Seniors Caylee Parker and Jasmine Davis got the Huskies started with back-to-back kills. UConn would eventually jump out to a 12-5 lead forcing the Bulldogs to take a timeout. Following the timeout, UConn would continue to overpower the Bulldogs, capitalizing on mistakes and preventing long rallies that might lead to a comeback. UConn would go on to take the first set by a final of 25-15. Parker would finish the first set with six kills while the Bulldogs as a team would finish with nine.
Butler would not back down as they would come out to strong to start the second set. Following a 4-0 scoring run by the Bulldogs, UConn would call a timeout. Coming out of the timeout, UConn and Butler would trade blows preventing either team from building a lead. UConn would regroup and jump out to a 17-13 lead forcing Butler to call the timeout. From there the Huskies would not look back as they would take the second set 25-23. Taylor Pannell, Kennadie Jake-Turner and Jasmine Davis would all finish with four kills in the set.
UConn would look to close out the game and take the victory in three straight sets. Butler would continue fighting looking to force a set four. Both teams would trade blows as neither team would have a lead larger than two in the three. Butler would take a timeout trailing 21-18, and from there the Huskies would overpower the Bulldogs to come away with the victory. Coming out of the timeout, Jasmine Davis and Caylee Parker would take over leading UConn to the 25-22 victory.
With the win, UConn improves to 11-10 overall, and 5-5 in conference play. Up next for UConn is a trip to Washington D.C to take on Georgetown University, Friday October 28.
