Philadelphia, PA. - Â The University of Connecticut women's volleyball team came from behind to take down Villanova for their seventh straight win, and seventh straight conference win. The seven-game win streak is the longest for the Huskies since the 2006 season.
Villanova started the game firing on all cylinders as they would jump out to an early 13-8 lead. UConn would not go away without a fight as they would battle back and cut the lead to two. Villanova would respond to UConn's run and eventually take the first set by a final score of 25-20. Jasmine Davis would finish set one with three kills, while Allie Garland and Kennadie Jake-Turner would both finish with two.
UConn would look to respond in set two. The Huskies would rely heavily on their experienced upperclassmen throughout the set and match. Allie Garland would start the Huskies off strong with two kills. The Wildcats would respond with a run of their own and eventually take the 7-2 lead forcing UConn to call a timeout. Coming out of the timeout, UConn would regroup and go on a run of their own, eventually tying the game at 17 forcing Villanova to call a timeout. From there it was all UConn as they would capitalize off Wildcat errors to take set two by a final of 25-22. Jasmine Davis would finish set two with seven kills, while Allie Garland would finish with four and freshman Emma Werkmeister with three.
The third set would be a battle as both teams would go on multiple runs looking to put the other team away. UConn jumped out to a 16-10 lead forcing a Villanova timeout, followed by Villanova cutting the UConn lead to two, at 22-20. UConn would respond however and take set three by a final of 25-22.
The Huskies would come out in set four and look to put the Wildcats away and take home the victory. UConn would start the set strong with multiple kills and would continue to build off that momentum until Villanova would take a timeout trailing 15-9. UConn would not look back as they would go on to take the set by a final of 25-17.
It was an all-around team effort from the Huskies today as Jasmine Davis would finish with 17 kills, followed by Allie Garland with 14, and Emma Werkmeister with 12. Karly Berkland would finish with 16 digs and Madi Whitmire would finish with 38 assists.
