Huskies Take Down Xavier For 8th-Straight Win

CINCINATTI, Ohio - The University of Connecticut women's volleyball team took down Xavier University for their eight straight victory and conference win. Four different Huskies notched double digit kills, led by senior Caylee Parker who finished with 18 kills.
UConn and Xavier were in a constant battle from first serve, with both teams trading points preventing any long rallies or runs. Following a 4-1 scoring run by the Huskies Xavier would call a timeout trailing 13-10. The Musketeers would regroup and take a 15-14 lead forcing UConn to take a timeout. Following the UConn timeout, the Huskies would regroup and eventually go on to take the first set by a final of 25-18. Caylee Parker and Allie Garland both finished with five kills in the set.
The second set was a game of runs, as UConn would start the game jumping out to a 9-4 lead. Xavier would respond and cut the UConn to lead to one. The Huskies would fight back and go on to take a 17-12 lead forcing a Xavier timeout. Following the timeout, UConn would not look back as they would go on to take the second set by a final score of 25-20. Kennadie Jake-Turner led the Huskies in the second set with five kills followed by freshman Emma Werkmeister and senior Caylee Parker with four.
Xavier would not go down without a fight as they would continue battling looking to avoid a sweep. The Musketeers would prevent UConn from establishing any momentum in the fourth set and would eventually jump out to a 14-10 lead forcing the Huskies to take the timeout. UConn would cut the lead to one, but Xavier would refuse to let the Huskies take the lead as they would go on to take the third set by a final of 25-21.
UConn would begin the fourth set by instantly jumping out to a 4-1 lead forcing Xavier to call a timeout. Coming out of the timeout, Xavier would cut the lead to one, but UConn would regroup and jump out to an 18-13 lead forcing another Musketeers timeout. UConn would not look back as they would go on to take the fourth set by a final of 25-18 and the match by a final of three sets to one.
Senior Caylee Parker led the way with 18 kills, followed by Allie Garland with 15, Emma Werkmeister with 13 and Kennadie Jake-Turner with 11 while senior Madi Whitmire finished with 53 assists.
