Huskies Drop Home and Home Series Against Boston University

Storrs, Conn. - The women's ice hockey team dropped the home and home series against Boston University and would take a 5-2 setback Saturday afternoon.
Period 1: UConn and Boston University (BU) would keep it close throughout the first period. The Huskies would get the action going with a power play. That would be their first of three in the game. However, the Terriers would avoid a power play goal and kill the penalty. Then, BU would put up the first goal of the afternoon late in the first with a goal by Catherine Foulem. Not long after, in less than two minutes, UConn would respond as Brianna Ware would send it over to Kathryn Stockdale for the tying goal. BU would get the power play, but UConn would hold strong to keep them from scoring with the advantage. UConn would end the first tied 1-1.
Period 2: UConn would start the second period by killing the penalty that carried over from the first period. BU would get a second consecutive power play, but UConn would kill the penalty again. Opposed to UConn's three power plays, BU ended the game with five on the day. Then, BU would get a third consecutive power play sending Carlie Magier to the box for cross-checking. The Terriers would get the power play goal with a goal by Nadia Mattivi. BU would get its fourth power play late in the second, but UConn would stop the Terriers and kill the penalty. Just like the first period, UConn would answer back to tie it at 2-2. Coryn Tormala and Christina Walker would set up Kate Thurman for the equalizer. Not too long after, BU would take the lead right back with a goal by Haylee Blinkhorn before the end of the third period. The score would be 3-2 with BU up heading into the third period.
Period 3: BU would slip away from UConn in the third period, but not without a fight. The Huskies would get a two-man advantage with two penalties from BU to start the period. Even with five on three action, UConn could not execute. BU would kill both penalties and then get its fifth power play soon after. UConn would kill the penalty once more; however, BU would not go away as Haylee Blinkhorn would knock in her second goal of the game and give the Terriers a 4-2 lead. Then, a fifth goal would be scored in the game by Julia Nearis and UConn remained down 5-2 to end the game.
