Storrs, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women's volleyball team fell in three sets to No. 12 ranked Marquette in the Big East semifinals Friday night.Â
As the Huskies hung close throughout the game, the Golden Eagles would pull away early starting in the first set. During the UConn timeout at 7-2 Marquette, the Golden Eagles would figure things out quickly to keep UConn away. Marquette would go on to take the first set 25-16.Â
The second set would resemble much of the first set, although the Huskies would get the defense and the offense connected on a string of quality plays. After the UConn timeout being down 20-17 Marquette, the Golden Eagles would finish out the second set 25-19.Â
Marquette would work nicely on the defensive side to follow it up on the offensive side. That same pattern would happen in the third set for the Golden Eagles as they took the third set 25-16. By the end of the game Marquette's Aubrey Hamilton would contribute 13 kills, six digs, and five blocks. Yadhira Anchante would also give Marquette 31 assists and six kills. UConn would find some light from the play of Caylee Parker and Jasmine Davis as they combined for 14 kills, five digs, and two blocks. Madi Whitmire also contributed 19 assists on the day.Â
Although the Huskies are out of the Big East tournament, many great highlights have come out of the 2022-23 season. UConn finished the season 17-14 overall and 10-8 in Big East play. Additionally, the women's volleyball team made back-to-back appearances in the Big East Tournament. Â
