SB drops first game to James Madison

CHARLOTTE, NC – The UConn Huskies dropped their first matchup with the James Madison Dukes on Saturday.
Meghan O'Neil started the game pitching 2.1 innings giving up seven runs on eight hits. Delaney Nagy came in relief for O'Neil in the third inning. She went on to pitch 3.2 innings only giving up two runs on three hits.
The Huskies got on the board early in the top half of the first. Briana Marcelino would score the first run of the game on a throwing error. JMU would quickly answer in the bottom half of the first with two runs making it 2-1 Dukes. JMU would score four in the second giving them a 6-1 lead. The Dukes would tack on another in the third.
The Huskies would strike back in the fourth on a solo home run by Senior Reese Guevarra cutting into the JMU lead 7-2. UConn got the bats going the in the sixth trimming the Dukes lead to 7-5. The Huskies got a pair of RBI's off the bats of Sami Barnett & Guevarra. Olivia Sappington would hit a solo shot to right center field, her second home run on the year.
The Dukes responded in the bottom half of the sixth with two runs making it 9-5 which would be the final score.
UConn will get another shot at James Madison tomorrow morning at 10:00am in the final game of the Charlotte Invitational.
