First Day a Wrap at Columbia Challenge

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The UConn track and field teams wrapped up the first day of competition at the Dr. Sander Columbia Challenge at the Armory in New York City on Friday. The event will wrap-up on Saturday with the majority of events still to be completed.
Friday's Notes:
Men
On the track…
- Freshman Terrel Williams (Maplewood, N.J.) took third in the 60-meter hurdles, matching his career-best time at 7.81 seconds.
- Junior Joseph O'Brien (Shrewsbury, Mass.) took third in the 60-meter dash and did so with a new PR, clocking a 6.80 second time. Junior Josiah Thomas (Jamaica, N.Y.) was eighth at 6.96 seconds.
- UConn distance medley relay team of Marzio Mastroianni (Branford, Conn.), Mahamed Sharif (Westbrook, Maine), Stephen Sutton (Tolland, Conn.) and Kevin Cawley (Massapequa, N.Y.) finished fourth overall and had the fastest time of the season with a clocking of 9:55.06.
In the field…
- The Huskies hold down the top-three spots in the heptathlon after day one and four events. Senior Benjamin Grosse (Wayzata, Minn.) is in the lead with 2989 points after winning the shotput at 13.94 meters and the high jump at a height of 2.00 meters.
- Junior Nicholas Pronovost (Coventry, Conn.) is in second with 2966 points thanks to second place finishes in the long jump (6.88m) and the shotput (12.98m), setting new PR marks in both, and a third-place finish in the high jump (1.88m). Senior Jordan Torney (Toms River, N.J.) is in third at 2956 points and grabbed a win in the long jump at 6.92 meters and was second in the 60-meter dash at 7.10 seconds.
- Junior Tyler Hrbek (Northvale, N.J.) took home a fourth-place finish in the pole vault, clearing a height of 4.95 meters. Freshman Patrick Oatman (Shrewsbury, Mass.) cleared a new season-best height at 4.65 meters.
- Freshman Kasey Savage (Tolland, Conn.) set a new PR in the triple jump at 14.19 meters, good for a ninth-place finish.
UConn Women
On the track…
- UConn's distance medley relay team of Chloe Thomas (Dundas, Ontario), Raquel Rosa (Waterbury, Conn.), Elise O'Leary (Milton, Mass.) and Mia Nahom (New Milford, Conn.) finished third with a time of 11:15.62.
In the field…
- Senior Taylor Woods (Marlboro, Md.) took second place in the long jump with a leap of 6.19 meters
