STORRS, Conn. – The No. 8 UConn women's basketball team (15-4, 9-0 BIG EAST) returns to conference play to face Villanova (15-6, 9-3) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the XL Center. The game will air on SNY and the UConn Sports Network.

The BIG EAST Conference will celebrate Black History Month in partnership with the Black Fives Foundation, a nonprofit public charity whose mission is to research, preserve, showcase, teach, and honor the pre-NBA history of African Americans in basketball, to host 22 games honoring Black athletes, coaches, and communities who played a critical part in America's basketball history.
UConn women's basketball will wear shooting shirts that honor the Hartford Tigerettes vs. Butler. The Tigerettes were an African American women's basketball team that played from the late-1940s into the mid-1950s and were dominating members of the Connecticut Girls Basketball League.
UConn finished off non-conference play with a 75-56 win over then-No. 7 Tennessee Sunday. Freshman Azzi Fudd broke out for a season-high 25 points while shooting 49.2 percent from the field and 77.8 from three-point range. Redshirt senior Evina Westbrook and sophomore Aaliyah Edwards each scored 14 points vs. the Lady Vols. UConn had a season-high 12 three-pointers, led by seven from Fudd. The Huskies also shot a season-best 46.2 percent from three.
UConn is 38-17 all-time vs. Villanova. The Huskies won both meetings vs. the Wildcats last season: a 90-52 win at Villanova on Dec. 22, 2020 and an 84-39 win in the BIG EAST Tournament semifinals on March 7, 2021. This is Villanova's first game at UConn since Jan. 29, 2013.
Villanova is on a seven-game win streak, most recently a 76-57 win over Georgetown. This season, Maddy Siegrist leads the Wildcats 25.7 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. Head coach Denise Dillon is in her second season at Villanova.
