NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – UConn sophomore Tommy Dallahan shot three consecutive sub-70 rounds, including a blistering 6-under par 65 in the final round Tuesday to capture the individual championship at the Bash at the Beach golf tournament, held at the Surf, Golf & Beach Club in North Myrtle Beach, S.C.
It is the first tournament title for the UConn sophomore, as well as the first Top 10 finish of his career. Dallahan fired a 12-under, 67-69-65=201, his lowest tourney score in 16 collegiate events. The three rounds are the first sub-70 rounds of his college career, included the low round (65) of his career and upped his career total of par-or-better rounds to 14.
Dallahan (Simsbury, Conn.) who won medalist honors by one stroke over Sverrir Haraldsson of host school Appalachin State, topped a field of 99 golfers from 15 schools.
Dallahan's victory led UConn to a fifth-place finish in the event, just one stroke out of third place. The Huskies shot an aggregate 16-under, 279-284-273=836, to finish behind team champion Troy (828), runner-up Appalachin State (830), and Long Island (835) and Marquette (835), who tied for third. The Huskies have not finished out of the Top 5 in any of nine events during the 2021-22 season.
Also helping UConn's effort was sophomore Caleb Manuel (Topsham, Me.), who shot a 6-under, 68-71-68=207, to finish in a tie for 10th place, his seventh Top 10 finish this year and the 10th of his career. Manuel now has 16 rounds of par-or-better this year and 12 sub-70 rounds. For his career, the totals are 28 par-or-better rounds and 16 sub-70 rounds.
Rounding out the Huskies' totals, senior Jared Nelson (Rutland, Vt.) shot a 2-over, 75-71-69=215 to tie for 47th place and the two rounds of par or better gives him 11 for the season.
Freshman Trevor Lopez (Winchester, Mass.) finished in a tie for 63rd place with an 8-over, 72-78-71=221, which included his seventh par-or-better round, and sophomore Jimmy Paradise (Tampa, Fla.) finished in a tie for 66th place with a 9-over, 72-73-77=222.
Playing as individuals, UConn senior Nick Hampoian (North Reading, Mass.) was in a tie with Lopez for 63rd place with an 8-over, 77-69-75=221, which included his second sub-70 round. Freshman Eric Boulger (Walpole, Mass.) came in 74th with a 13-over, 74-75-77=226, his best tourney score of the season. Freshman Vikram Konanki (Newton, Mass.) was 87th with a 20-over, 77-77-79=233.
