HookC Knocks Off No. 25 USC, 7-1

LOS ANGELES - The UConn baseball team (12-2) earned its first ranked win of the season with a 7-1 victory against No. 25 USC on Tuesday night at Dedeaux Field.
Freshman right-hander Ian Cooke was spectacular with career-high 7.2 shutout innings, scattering four hits and striking out a career-high seven batters.
The Huskies would get all the runs they would need in the third inning, with a four-run frame that featured three extra base hits. David Smith got the scoring going with a two-run triple down the right field line.Â
Erik Stock extended his hitting streak to 25 games with an RBI double in the frame.
Bryan Padilla delivered a two-run homer, his second of the season, to push the UConn lead to 6-0 in the sixth inning.
The final blow was a 434 foot home run off the light tower in the left field off the bat of Ben Huber. The long ball was the third of the year for the UConn first baseman.
UConn will turn around and play historic West Coach power Long Beach State on Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET/ 6 p.m. PT at Blair Field.Â
