Huskies Fall in Hockey East Championship

Boston, Mass. – The University of Connecticut women's hockey team fell to Northeastern in the championship game 3-1. Graduate Student Morgan Wabick was the lone goal scorer for the Huskies.
The first period began with Northeastern instantly dominating the possession and firing shots at freshman Megan Warrener. UConn would struggle to gain possession and get their offense rolling. However, midway through the first period graduate student Morgan Wabick would take the puck off a Northeastern turnover and score on a breakaway to give UConn the 1-0 lead heading into the break. Freshman goaltender Megan Warrener would make 16 saves in the first period.
In the second period, both teams would come out aggressive trying to be the next team to score. UConn defense and Megan Warrener would stand strong preventing the Northeastern equalizer. UConn would look to extend their lead in the second period with three power play opportunities, but Northeastern's penalty kill would prevent any chances. Northeastern would eventually even up the score with 17 seconds left in the second period, and head into the break tied at 1.
In the third period, Northeastern would instantly jump on the attack and score to take the lead only 30 seconds into the period. From there UConn would continue to try and fight back and even up the score but Northeastern's goaltender and defenders would prevent any true opportunities. Late in the third period Northeastern would score another to give them the two-goal lead, and that would be too much for the Huskies to overcome. UConn would fall in the championship game 3-1.
