Softball falls to Providence 2-1 in extra innings

Storrs, CT – UConn drops game two against Providence 2-1, snapping 9-game win streak.
Meghan O'Neil got the start for the Huskies. She went four innings allowing only three hits and striking out five.
The Friars jumped out in front with a leadoff home run in the first inning giving them a 1-0 lead.
Elise Sokolsky came in relief for O'Neil in the fifth inning and went on to pitch four innings striking out five.
The Huskies battled back to tie the game in the sixth inning on a double by Lexi Hastings to score Briana Marcelino, forcing the game to go to extra innings.
In the eighth inning, the Friars scored the go-ahead run to make it 2-1. The Huskies battled to the very end, but it was not enough to beat the Friars.
The rubber game of the three game series is set for Monday at 2:00pm at Burrill Family Field.
