No. 15 HookC Rallies, Beats Northeastern in Extras, 5-2

BROOKLINE, Mass. - The No. 15 UConn baseball team (33-8) rallied to win 5-2 in 10 innings against Northeastern on a wet Tuesday afternoon at Freidman Diamond.
The Huskies were down 2-0 and without their star right fielder Casey Dana after he was injured in the fourth inning on a slide into home plate. In the seventh, Zach Bushling lifted a ball into left field that was misjudged in the rain and fell to the turf for a lead off two-bagger.
Ben Huber immediately followed with an RBI single into center to cut the deficit to 2-1. With two outs and Huber at second, Christian Fedko rolled a ball deep into the hole at short, Spenser Smith unleashed a throw to first that clipped off the first baseman's glove and allowed Huber to come all the way around to score and tie the game, 2-2.
The UConn bullpen was nails on Tuesday with Jack Sullivan throwing 2.0 scoreless frames to keep the Huskies down a pair. Devin Kirby tossed a shutdown frame in the seventh and Brady Afthim followed with 1.2 innings of shutout ball.Â
Left-hander Brendan O'Donnell came out of the pen and got the final out of the ninth inning to send the game to extras.

In the 10th, David Smith was hit by a pitch to start the rally. He moved to second on a wild pitch and slide underneath the tag at third on a bunt from Chris Brown that the catcher fired to third base.
With the bases loaded and one out, T.C. Simmons was hit by a pitch to give UConn its first lead of the day, 3-2. Zach Bushling followed with a two-run single to break the game open.
Justin Willis came on and tossed a 1-2-3 10th inning to earn his 10th save of the season.
Next up, the Huskies face Yale on Wednesday afternoon at 4:05 p.m. at Elliot Ballpark.

- Head coach Jim Penders is 13-0 against Northeastern in Brookline, Mass as a student-athlete, assistant and head coach.
- UConn has won 11 in a row at Northeastern with the last loss coming in 1996.
- The Huskies are 4-0 in extra inning games with all four ending in the 10th inning.
- Tuesday was the second time that the Huskies won this season when trailing entering the seventh.
