UConn dominates UMASS 15-0

Amherst, MA – UConn takes midweek run rule win over UMASS 15-0 to improve to 21-13 on the year.
Elise Sokolsky started in the circle for the Huskies. She pitched three hitless innings striking out six.
UConn would score early and often in this one. The Huskies offense exploded in the second inning sending 11 batters to the plate, scoring seven runs. Erika Coreth started off the big inning with an infield single to score Lexi Hastings. Briana Marcelino delivered a two run double to extend the lead to 3-0. Rosie Garcia hit a single to tack on another run. Hastings delivered the big hit to break it open with a bases clearing double to make it 7-0.
In the third, UConn made it 9-0. Marcelino hit a sac fly to bring in Coreth. UConn plated another with some heads up baserunning by Aziah James to make it 9-0.
The Huskies added to the lead again in the fourth scoring two more runs. Coreth hit a single up the middle making it 11-0.
Delaney Nagy came in relief for Sokolsky in the fourth. She went one inning and struck out one.
Hastings would once again add to the lead in the fifth. She hit a grand slam over the scoreboard in left field, her seventh RBI of the game to make it 15-0. That is her first career home run as a Husky.
Meghan O'Neil relieved Nagy in the fifth to close out the win. She struck out three to complete the one hit shutout for the pitching staff.
The Huskies will be back in action this weekend as they host Creighton for a three game series.
