Softball kicks off home stand with a win

Storrs, CT – UConn takes down Creighton 5-4 in the first game of the series. Huskies were led by starting pitcher Elise Sokolsky who went five innings only giving up two hits with nine strikeouts.
The Blue Jays took an early 1-0 lead in the first. The Huskies would respond right back in the bottom half of the first taking a 2-1 lead. Reese Guevarra would move herself into scoring position on a stolen base. Jana Sanden drove her in with a base hit to right field. Guevarra finished with four stolen bases on the day. Lexi Hastings scored on a pass ball to give the Huskies the lead.
Marybeth Olson came in relief for Sokolsky in the sixth. She went on to close out the win, notching three strikeouts under her belt.
The Huskies would get much needed insurance runs in the sixth inning. Guevarra reached on an error to score two runs giving UConn some breathing room at 4-1. Aziah James scored on another error by Creighton to make it 5-1 Huskies.
The Blue Jays went on to score three runs in the seventh, but it wasn't enough to beat the Huskies.
Game two tomorrow has been moved back to 5:00pm due to inclement weather.
