No. 10 JMU Tops No. 20 UConn in NCAA Tournament First Round

BALTIMORE – Contending in the NCAA Tournament for the third time in program history, the No. 20 UConn women's lacrosse saw its historic season end as it fell, 14-7, to No. 10 James Madison Friday night at the Ridley Athletic Complex.
Senior Lia LaPrise provided the offense against the 11th-ranked scoring defense, leading the Huskies with two goals and two assists, and sophomore Susan Lafountain additionally netted a pair of scores. Senior Sydney Watson won a game-high nine draw controls, while fellow senior Landyn White made eight saves in net.
Senior Stephanie Palmucci got the Huskies on the board first, working from behind the net and zipped one in front of the crease just under two minutes into action. JMU answered at the 10-minute mark on a free position shot and utilizing a 4-0 run to swing the scoreboard in its favor at the end of the opening frame.
Junior Madelyn George sprinted the length of the field in transition and ripped the upper-90 to cut the deficit in half to start the second quarter. JMU added another two until Lia LaPrise split a pair of defenders, though the Dukes tallied two more to pull ahead 8-3 at the break.
LaPrise continued to pace the attack, finding Lafountain and junior Morgan Carter for two straight one-timers as the Huskies trimmed the deficit to three to start the second half. LaPrise and Lafountain scored their second goals of the night in the fourth, but the Dukes won their 11th straight game to advance to the second round.
The Huskies finished the season with a 13-5 record. It's 13 wins matched the program's single-season win record.
