MASON, Ohio - The UConn baseball team (46-13) beat Xavier 7-2 to capture back-to-back BIG EAST Tournament Championships.
The Huskies held a Xavier offense that had scored 48 runs in the BIG EAST Championship to just two runs on Sunday afternoon.
Enzo Stefanoni pitched 3.1 innings for before passing the ball to Garrett Coe. The sophomore left-hander dealt 4.0 scoreless frames.
The Huskies offense scored five runs in the first two innings with Matt Donlan delivering a two-run infield single in the first and then added to the lead with a two-run homer from Bryan Padilla and RBI single from Erik Stock in the second.
With a 5-0 lead in the third and runners at first and second and no outs, Enzo got Jerry Huntzinger to roll into a 5-4 DP and then Donlan picked off the Xavier catcher at first base to end the frame.
Devin Kirby closed out the ballgame by recording the final five outs of the game.Â
The Huskies captured their fifth BIG EAST Championship and have swept the regular season and tournament crowns the past two seasons.
UConn will head to its fourth-straight NCAA Tournament and eighth since 2010. The NCAA Selection Show will be on ESPN2 at 12 p.m. on Monday, May 30.
