STORRS, Conn. - The No. 15 UConn baseball team (39-8, 13-1 BIG EAST) defeated Creighton (25-14, 10-4 BIG EAST), 6-5, to clinch the series on Saturday afternoon at Elliot Ballpark.
The Huskies trailed 2-0 entering the bottom of the first but immediately responded with a two-out RBI single for Ben Huber and a bases-loaded walk to Matt Donlan to even it up at two.
Erik Stock gave UConn its first lead with a solo homer to left field, his ninth of the year, to make it 3-2 in the second.Â
The UConn bullpen was excellent with Garrett Coe settling things down on the mound. With runners at first and third and one out in the fourth, the lefthander came out of the pen and induced a pop up and strike out to keep the Huskies ahead.
Stock added a sacrifice fly in the fourth to make it 4-2 Huskies. Coe went back to work and fired 3.0 innings of one-run ball to earn his first career win.Â
The Bluejays made it a one-run game in the seventh but Ian Cooke stranded a runner at third with Jack Grace flying out to end the threat.
UConn scored a pair of insurance runs in the eighth with Huber delivering an RBI single to plate Casey Dana. A wild pitch added another tally to make it 6-3.
After Roden homered to make it 6-5 in the ninth, Justin Willis came on and got the final out to secure the series win.
The Huskies will look to grab a sweep on Sunday with an 11:05 a.m. first pitch.

- The Huskies grabbed their 39th win of the season, tying for third most in program history.
- UConn is 13-1 in BIG EAST play, its best start to conference play in program history.
- Justin Willis notched his 13th save, tying Kevin Vance for fourth most in a single-season.
- Korey Morton returned to the lineup and grabbed a pair of hits. The sophomore is 23-46 (.500) at the plate this season.
