MSOC falls to Rhode Island, 3-1

KINGSTON, RI – The UConn men's soccer team fell to the Rhode Island Rams Saturday night 3-1 in Kingston, Rhode Island.
UConn started off strong getting three shots off in the first ten minutes of the game. The Rams interrupted the Huskies momentum scoring on their first shot of the game in the 10th minute.
The Huskies kept applying pressure creating chances in the final third. In the 17th minute Okem Chime had a chance in the box but his effort was off target. In the 22nd minute Mateo Leveque had a shot on goal, but the Rams goalkeeper made a great save to preserve their lead.
Rhode Island extended their lead in the 31st minute off a counterattack. UConn quickly responded with a goal in the 33rd minute. Frantz Pierrot won a free kick in a dangerous position for the Huskies. Leveque swung in a ball that was headed home by Søren Ilsøe, his second goal of the season, trimming the Rams lead to one.
UConn dominated in possession for the rest of the first half outshooting the Rams 9-3. The half finished with the Huskies trailing 2-1.
The first five minutes of the second half were frantic as both teams had great opportunities on goal. URI had a goal ruled offside and UConn's Kwame Adu-Gyamfi had a shot that sailed just over the Rams crossbar. The quick pace of play continued throughout the second half. In the 58th minute Nicolas Tomerius sent a dangerous ball across the face of goal that was met by Pierrot but could not be put in the back of the net. Freshman Christian Dionne came off the bench for the Huskies and had two great chances on goal in the 69th and 74th minutes. UConn outshot the Rams 15-4.
Rhode Island extended their lead in the final minute of the game off a counterattack as UConn had all of their numbers up trying to get an equalizer.

UConn will be back in action on Saturday, September 17th as they kick off BIG EAST play at Creighton. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm.
