STORRS, Conn. - Â The University of Connecticut women's hockey team is set to open their season with a two-game series against RIT at Freitas Ice Forum in Storrs, Connecticut.
UConn is coming off one of their best seasons in program history which ended with a 24-9-4 overall record and their third trip to the Hockey East championship game in the last five seasons. UConn will be led by captain and senior Coryn Tormala in the 2022-23 season.
The Huskies lost a large portion of their offense from last season, however junior Jada Habisch will look to step up and build off her sophomore season. UConn welcomes back two familiar faces in Cam Wong and Tia Chan, both of whom were not with the team last season as they were representing Team China in the Olympics. UConn will rely heavily on an experienced defense led by seniors Claire Peterson, Ainsley Svetek and Cam Wong, in addition to sophomore goaltender Megan Warrener who was the backbone of the Huskies post season run.
UConn and RIT have played a total of three times with the Huskies holding a 2-1 advantage. Their last matchup came in October of last season which ended with the Huskies taking home the victory by a final of 6-2.
Puck drop for the home opener on Friday September 23 will be 6pm and can be streamed on ESPN+. The two teams will then gear up for another matchup this time with puck drop being 3pm.
