Huskies Fall at No. 12 NC State

RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State quarterback Devin Leary threw for 320 yards and four touchdowns to lead the No. 12 nationally ranked Wolfpack past the UConn Huskies, 41-10, Saturday night in front of 56,919 at Carter-Finley Stadium.
The Huskies (1-4) drop their third-straight, losing to a Top-25 nationally ranked program for the second-consecutive week. UConn freshman running back Victor Rosa (Bristol, CT) carried six times for 43 yards and a touchdown in the loss. Freshman quarterback Zion Turner (Fort Lauderdale, FL) completed 10-of-12 passes but for just 39 yards.
NC State (4-0) put together 492 yards of total offense, 323 in the air, 29 first downs while going 10-for-14 on third down. Defensively, the Wolfpack kept the Huskies under wraps to the tune of 160 yards of total offense, just 2-fo-12 on the third down and eight total first downs.
The Wolfpack wasted no time jumping on the scoreboard, scoring 14 seconds into the game as Leary connected with Thayer Thomas for a 75-yard score on their first play from scrimmage. Leary commanded the NC State offense to scores on their first five drives, 357 yards of total offense, to 56 yards for the Huskies, while holding the ball for 20:01 en route to a 31-3 halftime lead.
Leary finished the first half 25-of-32 for 275 yards and three touchdowns while the Wolfpack converted 6-of-7 on third down and held the Huskies to 0-for-6.
The Huskies got a turnover in the closing minutes of the first half as linebacker Brandon Bouyer-Randle (Battle Creek, MI) got his second interception on the season and set UConn up on the NC State 10-yard line. The Wolfpack defense stood tall, getting a sack on second down and forced a Noe Ruelas (West Hartford, CT) 28-yard field goal as time expired.
UConn got on the board late in the fourth quarter as Rosa capped off a 10-play, 70-yard drive with an 11-yard run for six to cap the scoring.
Sophomore safety Durante Jones (Atlanta, GA) turned in a career-high 13 tackles while r-sophomore Malik Dixon-Williams (Orlando, FL) made 11 stops, matching his career-high. Linebacker Bouyer-Randle finished with nine tackles to go with his interception.
Leary's night ended in the fourth quarter with the quarterback finishing 32-of-44. He found nine different receivers on the ninght and hit Thayer for five catches and 115 yards. Michael Allen carried it 10 times for 66 yards while Sumo-Kamgbaye had 49 yards rushing on four carries and a score.

The Huskies return home to Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field next Saturday, October 1 to take on the Fresno State Bulldogs. UConn and Fresno State have met just once before, in last season's opener, a 45-0 Bulldog win at home. The game will kick-off at 3:30 pm live on CBS Sports Network.
