STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men's soccer team settled for a 1-1 tie against the Assumption Greyhounds on Tuesday night. The Huskies outshot Assumption 27-4.
UConn was dominant in possession in the first half, generating twelve shots and five corner kicks. Despite controlling much of the game, the Huskies struggled to find the back of the net. Assumption's goalkeeper, Francisco Teixeira finished with ten saves on the night.
Assumption opened the scoring with a goal in the 69th minute by Daniel Paulsson. This was the Greyhounds first and only shot on goal in the match.
UConn turned up the pressure in search of an equalizer as the Huskies produced eleven shots in the final 20 minutes of the contest.
The Huskies finally caught a break in the 81st minute as UConn's Adil Iggoute was tripped inside the Greyhounds box and was awarded a penalty kick for the Huskies. The graduate transfer stepped up to the spot and buried his third goal of the season to put UConn level.
"It is disappointing, obviously you want to win anytime you play", said head coach Chris Gbandi. "Give Assumption credit, they did a great job of neutralizing some of the things we like to do."
