PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The UConn men's soccer team lost 3-1 to the Providence Friars on Wednesday night.
Providence jumped out in front in the 8th minute off a Nathan Messer curling shot. The Friars doubled their lead in the 19th minute as Brendan McSorley scored his seventh goal of the season.
UConn had a great chance to trim into the deficit in the 21st minute as Nicolas Tomerius had a shot hit the post denying the sophomore midfielder his second goal of the season.
The Huskies went into the halftime break down 2-0. UConn outshot Providence 8-5 in the first half.
Providence extended their lead to 3-0 in the 71st minute off a McSorley header.
UConn got on the board in the 76th minute as Scott Testori scored his sixth goal of the season. The junior forward headed home a cross from Tomerius, netting a goal in his second straight game.
"It's a disappointing loss", said head coach Chris Gbandi. "I think we let ourselves down in the first half, getting down 2-0 and having to chase the game. Give a lot of credit to Providence, they are a great team who are on fire at the moment."
