WSOC Faces Xavier In Critical BIG EAST Match

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's soccer team (5-2-4, 2-0-2 BIG EAST) squares off against Xavier (9-2-3, 2-0-3 BIG EAST) for its Breast Cancer Awareness Game on Sunday, October 8 at 1 p.m.
The Huskies enter Sunday's match with a season-high five game unbeaten streak and carry a 5-0-3 record at Morrone Stadium into its matchup with the Musketeers.Â
Sunday's match pairs up two of the top teams in the league standings with Xavier in second place with 9 points (five games played) and third place UConn at 8 points (four games played). The top two teams in the BIG EAST standings earn byes to the semifinals of the BIG EAST Championship.Â
The Huskies are seeking their first ever win against Xavier with an 0-2 mark in the brief history of the series. Both matchups have been 1-0 scorelines.Â
The UConn defense has been one of the best in the country ranking 12th in shutout percentage (.636) and T22nd with seven shutouts total on the season. Its 0.45 goals per game average ranks best in the BIG EAST.
The Huskies will go up against the top offense in the BIG EAST with the Musketeers scoring a league best 24 goals this season.Â
