#5 UConn Plays Host to Mississippi Valley State, Tuesday

HARTFORD - The No. 5 UConn men's basketball team (2-0) closes a three-game homestand on Tuesday night when it plays host to Mississippi Valley State (0-2) at the XL Center. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and will air on FS2 with John Fanta and Donny Marshall on the call.Â
UConn has been sharp over its first two contests, topping Northern Arizona and Stonehill by over 40 points per game. The Huskies are shooting 54.7 percent from the floor and average 101.0 points per game, both top-15 in the nation.Â
Alex Karaban (Southborough, Mass.) and Tristen Newton (El Paso, Texas) have led the scoring load for the Huskies through two outings, averaging 18.5 and 18.0 points per game, respectively. In its last game against Stonehill, all five UConn starters scored in double-figures for the first time in the Dan Hurley era.Â
Freshman Stephon Castle (Covington, Ga.) has shined in the first contests of his career, earning BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors this week after going for 14.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game in the 2-0 start. Castle, Newton and Karaban are among the five Huskies averaging double-figures, joined by Donovan Clingan (Bristol, Conn.) at 14.5 per game and Cam Spencer (Davidsonville, Md.) at 10.0 per game.Â
MVSU visits the XL Center for a first-time meeting with the Huskies. The Delta Devils are 0-2 on the season, dropping early season contests so far to Oklahoma and LSU. Rayquan Brown leads MVSU with 15.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game, joined in double-figure scoring by Arecko Gipson at 10.5 per game.Â
Following Tuesday's contest the Huskies will shift into early season tournament play, heading to Madison Square Garden for the Saatva Empire Classic. First up is a date with Indiana on Sunday, Nov, 19 at 1 p.m.Â
