STORRS, Conn. - The UConn men's hockey team fell to the no.3/4 Boston College Eagles Saturday night at the Toscano Family Ice Forum. With the loss, UConn falls to 5-8-1 overall and 3-5 in Hockey East.
Boston College jumped out to the early lead when a shot by graduate student Jake Flynn from the point was blocked and created a 2-0 break, and Will Smith was able to find the back following a give and go. Senior goaltender Ethan Haider shut down the Eagles the rest of the period to keep UConn in the game.
The Huskies had multiple chances to net the equalizer but strong goaltending and defense by the Eagles kept the Huskies scoreless. UConn's best chance of the night came in the second period on the penalty kill. Sophomore Jake Percival collected the loose puck and, on the breakaway, made one move to beat the goaltender, but he could not get enough strength behind his shot as the puck stopped before crossing the goal line.
In the third period, the Eagles struck again to extend their lead to two goals, when Cutter Gauthier skated past the defense and fired the puck far post for the goal. UConn pulled the goaltender in favor of an extra skater in hopes of cutting into the Boston College lead, however an empty net goal by the Eagles sealed the victory.
