GREENSBORO, NC – The UConn softball team defeated the Indiana Hoosiers 5-0 on Sunday morning in the final game of the UNCG Invitational.

The pitching staff once again led the way for the Huskies shutting down the Hoosiers lineup, earning their second straight shutout. Hope Jenkins started in the circle going four innings with two strikeouts, earning her third win of the season. Payton Kinney came in relief for Jenkins in the fifth inning finishing the game on the mound for the Huskies. She only surrendered one hit while picking up her second save of the season.

Jana Sanden opened the scoring for the Huskies in the second inning with a solo home run, her second of the weekend giving UConn a 1-0 lead. UConn extended their lead in the next inning off the bat of Grace Jenkins. The freshman hit her team-leading fifth home run to make it 2-0 Huskies.

The Huskies put the game out of reach for the Hoosiers in the fifth inning with clutch two out hitting. Grace Jenkins picked up her second RBI of the game with a single up the middle to score Savannah Ring. Sanden followed Jenkins singling up the middle to bring the freshman home, picking up her second RBI of the game.

UConn added an insurance run in the seventh off the bat of Aziah James who singled to left field to score Kaitlyn Kibling.

The Huskies finish the weekend 3-1 at the UNCG Invitational and move to 7-5 on the season. UConn will be back in action next weekend as they travel to Liberty for the Liberty Invitational.
