Huskies Open Spring Season With BIG EAST Match Play Victory

WEST PLAM BEACH, Fla. – The UConn men's golf team opened the spring portion of its 2022-23 schedule with an impressive victory in the BIG EAST Match Play tournament at Bear Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach, Fla.
Playing three separate seven-match contests against St. John's, Butler and DePaul, the Huskies compiled a 14-5-2 record, finishing far ahead of their three opponents, which each finished with 8-10-3 records.
UConn began Match Play with a 6-0-1 triumph over Butler. In the semifinals, the Huskies topped DePaul, 4-3, and in the finals, UConn defeated St. John's. 4-2-1.
Each of the seven Huskies who competed contributed to the winning points total.
Leading the UConn charge was sophomore Eric Boulger (Walpole, Mass.) and freshman Connor Goode (Glastonbury, Conn.), who both went undefeated with 3-0 records. Junior Jimmy Paradise (Tampa, Fla.) had a 2-0-1 mark, while grad student Jared Nelson (Rutland, Vt.) and freshman Colin Spencer (Mashpee, Mass.) went 2-1. Junior Tommy Dallahan (Simsbury, Conn.) had a 1-1-1 mark and sophomore Trevor Lopez (Winchester, Mass.) went 1-2.
Boulger was the only player in the competition who managed two eagles, while Nelson led the competition in total birdies with 13, and Spencer was not far behind him with 11. Goode finished tied for second in Par 3 scoring at even-par.
UConn will continue its spring season with conventional stroke play events, starting with the Advance Golf Partners Collegiate on Feb. 12-14 at Hammock Creek Country Club in Palm City, Fla.
