Softball drops series finale against Georgetown

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn softball team fell in the series finale against Georgetown on Sunday afternoon in front of a sellout crowd at Burrill Family Field. The Huskies already clinched the series win on Friday moving them to 6-3 after today in BIG EAST play, putting them into third place behind Villanova and Butler.
Meghan O'Neil started in the circle for the Huskies going two innings with a strikeout. Payton Kinney came in relief for O'Neil, finishing out the game in the circle only giving up one hit with three strikeouts.
The Hoyas came out strong scoring in each of the first three innings, putting UConn in a five run deficit.
The Huskies struggled to get key hits, leaving five runners on base through the first two innings. UConn broke the scoring lock in the third inning with two runs. Makenzie Mason got the Huskies on the board with a single to score Grace Jenkins. Savannah Ring followed with a single up the middle to bring Mason around from second base.
UConn continued to battle putting runners on base, but they could not convert on their scoring opportunities.
The Huskies will return to action on Tuesday, as they travel to Boston University for a midweek matchup. First pitch is set for 3:30pm.
