UConn Downs UMass for First Time Since 2015, to Close Out Regular Season

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Connecticut women's tennis team won 4-3 over UMass to wrap up the regular season for the first time against the Minutewomen since 2015 on Wednesday.
With the win, the Huskies head to the postseason with a 10-9 overall record and 3-4 Big East record.
The match came down to the wire as it fell into Maria Constantinou's hands to close out the day at first singles; and Constantinou did just that. She would clinch the match in a third set thriller going 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.
Although Constantinou came up big at the end, UConn grouped together as a whole to pull out a well-fought victory. In doubles play, the Huskies took two of three at first and second doubles. Second doubles pair, Cameron Didion and Olivia Wright took a 6-4 win. Then, first doubles pair, Aleksandra Karamyshev and Isabel Petri Bere would win 7-5.
In singles, there would also be wins from fourth and sixth singles from Didion and Caroline Cook to assist Constantinou in the clinch to edge out a 4-3 final match score.
"This was a great win over a very strong UMass team today," Director of Tennis Glenn Marshall said. "It was an amazing finish, with Maria clinching the match 4-3, with the win at number one singles. It took the effort of the entire team today, and it all started with winning the doubles point. Olivia came back from her injury to step in for the win at number two doubles with Cameron. We clinched the doubles point with the win by Aleks and Izzy at number one doubles. In singles, there were battles on every court. Caroline, Cameron, and Maria had great wins to propel us to victory. What a great way to end our regular season with such a great team victory."
Next up the Huskies head into the postseason with the Big East Conference starting up on April 19 in Cayce, SC.
