STORRS, Conn. – The UConn softball team (28-11) completed their third straight series sweep on Sunday afternoon, coming back to beat Butler 3-2. The Huskies have now won eleven of their last twelve games, remaining atop the BIG EAST at 15-3.

Payton Kinney earned her eleventh win of the season, tying her career high for wins in a single season. She went six innings, with five strikeouts.

Butler jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning off a home run.

UConn got on the board in the third inning off the bat of Aziah James. She hit a rocket to the shortstop that was deflected into the outfield, allowing Lexi Hastings to score from second base, trimming the deficit to a run.

The Huskies threatened to score in the next two innings, but could not come up with the key hit, stranding two runners in scoring position.

UConn finally found their breakthrough in the sixth inning as Savannah Ring delivered the game sealing hit, a single to right center field, scoring Rosie Garcia and Hope Jenkins, giving the Huskies the lead for good, 3-2.

Meghan O'Neil came in to close out the win for the Huskies earning her sixth save of the season, working a nine pitch, 1-2-3 inning.

UConn returns to action this Wednesday, as they welcome the Hofstra Pride to Storrs for an out of conference matchup. First pitch is set for 4:00pm. Tickets are available HERE.
