STORRS, Conn. - The No. 20 UConn baseball team (20-6) closed out an 8-1 home stand with an 11-0 victory against UMBCÂ on Sunday afternoon at Elliot Ballpark.
The win secured the Huskies third series sweep of the season and second of the nine-game home stand.Â
The Huskies pitching and defense shut down the Retrievers on Sunday with five pitchers earning the first shutout of the season for the pitching staff.
Jack Sullivan notched his team-leading fourth win of the season with 5.0 innings of work, scattering six hits, one walk and four strikeouts.
Zach Fogell, Garrett Coe, Devin Kirby and Justin Willis each threw a scoreless inning with just one hit allowed and five strikeouts.
The defense continued its strong play by not committing a single error throughout the weekend.Â
Luke Broadhurst led the offense with a 3-3 day at the plate that included a two-run single and RBI base hit. Ben Huber also collected a three-hit game while Dominic Freeberger reached all five times with a pair of hits and three walks.
The Huskies now head to Columbia on Tuesday, April 4 for a midweek contest beginning aat 3:30 p.m.
