UConn, Kansas To Square Off In 2023 BIG EAST-Big 12 Battle

NEW YORK – The 2023 National Champion UConn men's basketball team will challenge 2022 National Champion Kansas on Dec. 1, 2023, in Lawrence, Kan., in the fifth edition of the BIG EAST-Big 12 Battle during the 2023-24 season.
It will be the third time that UConn will participate in the Battle, after bowing at West Virginia, 56-53, in the 2021-22 Battle, and defeating Oklahoma State, 74-64, this past season in Gampel Pavilion. With the Big 12 adding teams next season, the Battle will include all 11 BIG EAST teams. In 2023-24, there will be six home games for the Big 12 teams and five for the BIG EAST. The BIG EAST will have six home games in the 2024-25 Battle.
Kansas finished with a 28-8 record last season. The #1 seed in the West Region, the Jayhawks were eliminated in the second round of the NCAA Championship by Arkansas, 72-71. UConn, the #4 seed in the West and finished 31-8, defeated Arkansas, 88-65, in the Sweet 16 on its way to the NCAA title.
UConn has an 0-3 all-time record against Kansas, but has never played at Kansas' legendary Allen Fieldhouse. The Huskies bowed, 88-59, on Jan. 28, 1995, at Kemper Arena in Kansas City. The Jayhawks won a return game, 73-65, on Jan., 19, 1997, at the Hartford Civic Center. The third meeting was a 73-61 Kansas win in the second round of the 2016 NCAA Championship on March 19, 2016, in Des Moines, Iowa.
The Battle matchups are jointly determined by the two conferences, with the home team choosing the venue of its game. Broadcast arrangements for the contests will be determined by the national television rights holder of the home team, which is ESPN for the Big 12 and FOX Sports for the BIG EAST.Â
