STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men's soccer team picked up their first win of the season with a 4-0 win over Holy Cross in front of a sellout crowd at Morrone Stadium on Sunday night.
The Huskies quickly took control of the match scoring two goals in the 19th minute. Sophomore forward, Eli Conway netted UConn's first goal of the season and the fourth of his career. Just 27 seconds later, graduate transfer Adil Iggoute doubled the Huskies lead with his first goal in a UConn uniform. Iggoute got on the end of a cross from Nicolas Tomerius, making it 2-0 Huskies.
Scott Testori capped off the Huskies dominant first half with a goal in the 43rd minute, giving UConn a 3-0 lead at the half. The junior forward followed up a rebound from the goalkeeper, tallying his fourth career goal.
In the 65th minute, sophomore midfielder Pierce Bateson scored his first career goal, extending the Huskies lead to four. Testori set up Bateson with a nice pass in front of goal to set the sophomore up for his first career goal.
"I thought the group played pretty well", said head coach Chris Gbandi. "We had some good stuff offensively and defensively we were pretty strong. There are always things to work on, we are a team that needs to continue to get better every single day. We have a good group; they work hard so they make our job a lot easier."
