STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men's soccer team defeated the Manhattan Jaspers, 3-0 on a rainy Monday night at Morrone Stadium. Four true freshmen earned their first career starts.
UConn started the match strong opening the scoring in the 4th minute off a counterattack. Freshman forward Lucas Almeida netted his team leading third goal of the season. Christian Dionne led the break playing a nice pass into space for Almeida to run on to. Almeida shook his defender and finished in the far corner, giving UConn control early.
The Huskies doubled their lead fifteen minutes later in the 19th minute, as Scott Testori scored his second goal of the season. Freshman midfielder Ayoub Lajhar found Testori at the back post setting up the junior forward to tap in his fifth career goal.
The match was stopped in the 32nd minute due to lightning strikes in the area. The game would resume after a 40 minute delay in the action. UConn would go into the halftime break with a two goal lead.
Graduate forward Adil Iggoute sealed the win for the Huskies in the 72nd minute, giving UConn a three goal lead. Sophomore midfielder Pierce Bateson played a fantastic pass over the top of the defense and Iggoute smashed home his second goal of the season.
