WASHINGTON, D.C. – The UConn women's soccer team (5-2-3, 2-0-1 BIG EAST) notched a big road result with a 0-0 draw at No. 11 Georgetown on Thursday at Shaw Field.
The draw moves the Huskies unbeaten streak to a season-high four games and keeps UConn in a tie for first place in the BIG EAST standings.
The UConn defense was outstanding once again with countless big plays to keep the Hoyas off the scoreboard. Goalkeeper Kaitlyn Mahoney and the UConn defense captured its sixth shutout of the season, already tying the number of shutouts the Huskies earned last season.
The Huskies were able to generate a few quality opportunities offensively, outshooting the Hoyas with five shots on goal to Georgetown's four.
UConn was disciplined on set pieces, denying all 10 corner kick attempts from the Hoyas.
Graduate student Giovanna Dionicio made her first start of the season on the UConn backline and was solid along with fellow starters Laci Lewis, Lucy Cappadona and Jackie Harnett. Junior Yasmin Rosewell came off the bench and played significant minutes for the defense.
Next up, the Huskies will celebrate Senior Day on Sunday, October 1 at 1 p.m. against Marquette. The Huskies will honor its four seniors, one graduate student and four fifth-years.
