STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's soccer team (5-2-4, 2-0-2 BIG EAST) tied Marquette (5-5-3, 2-1-1 BIG EAST), 0-0, on Senior Day at Morrone Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
UConn honored its four seniors (Lucy Cappadona, Cara Elmendorf, Chloe Landers and Kaitlyn Mahoney), one graduate student (Giovanna Dionicio), four fifth year seniors (Jackie Harnett, Cara Jordan, Jessica Mazo and Emma Zaccagnini), and team manager Maddie Hill prior to the game.Â
The Huskies dictated play for the majority of the match but couldn't find the back of the net with their 13-2 shot advantage.Â
UConn created some quality opportunities in the first half with senior Chloe Landers finding a streaking Cara Jordan in the box. However, the Marquette keeper was able to come up big and make the save.
Later on in the first 45, fifth year senior Emma Zaccagnini had a header chance from just outside the six but her attempt was knocked way by the keeper.Â
The UConn defense secured its seventh shutout of the year, the most for a UConn team since the 2016 team notched 11 shutouts on their way to 19 wins and an NCAA Tournament bid.Â
The result moved the Huskies to 5-0-3 at Morrone Stadium this season and are currently tied for second in the BIG EAST standings with eight points through two weeks of play.
Next up, the Huskies remain home against Xavier with a Sunday, September 8th contest at 1 p.m. ET.Â
