HARTFORD – The No. 4 UConn men's basketball team (14-2, 4-1 BIG EAST) is back in action Sunday afternoon when it plays host to Georgetown (8-8, 1-4 BIG EAST) at the XL Center. Tip-off from Hartford is set for noon on FOX with Alex Faust and Donny Marshall on the call.
Sunday is Throwback Day at the XL Center. Fans are encouraged to wear their favorite throwback UConn threads as they cheer on the Huskies.
The Huskies are riding a four-game winning streak into Sunday's matinee. UConn recently completed a sweep in a two-game road swing, winning at Butler on Jan. 5 before knocking off Xavier, 80-75, at the Cintas Center on Wednesday. Georgetown enters the contest coming off a home loss to Seton Hall on Tuesday.
In the win at Xavier, Cam Spencer (Davidsonville, Md.) led five Huskies in double-figures with 19 points and Tristen Newton (El Paso, Texas) had a 16-point, 11-assist double-double. UConn shot 54.4 percent from the floor and dished out a season-high 27 assists in the win, while holding Xavier to 29.0 percent shooting in the second half.
Spencer leads the Huskies in scoring on the year with 15.4 points per game, followed closely by Newton at 15.2 per game and Alex Karaban (Southborough, Mass.) with 14.8 per contest. Newton is also UConn's leader in rebounding (6.4 rpg) and assists (6.0 apg) and was recently named to the Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 Watch List.
Jayden Epps leads the Georgetown offense with 18.2 points per game, while Dontrez Styles adds 13.6 per game and Supreme Cook chips in 10.6 and a team-high 7.9 rebounds per contest. UConn has won the last six in the series against Georgetown, a streak encompassing the three season series since the Huskies returned to the BIG EAST. It is tied for the third-longest winning streak for either side in a 72-game all-time series dating back to 1958, one currently tied at 36-36.
The game Sunday is the first of two-straight at home for the Huskies. UConn will be back at Gampel Pavilion on Wednesday, Jan. 17 to host Creighton.
